Upgrades, new buildings, reconfigurations and re-planning projects were undertaken at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, as part of a two-phased programme. The target was to provide a seamless experience for both audience members and employees, with Phase 1 involving the construction of a new double-height rehearsal studio, a new commercial kitchen, offices, a green room, and a series of smaller rehearsal rooms. The new building was constructed from prefabricated cross-laminated timber panels; a lightweight structure constructed during the off-season in just a few days.
The first phase enabled the theatre to bring the entirety of its production facilities together on the site for the first time since its establishment in 1932. Additionally, the foyer and front of house areas were reconfigured to enhance the public realm offering and create picnic lawns, sheltered seating areas, and a long, covered bar amongst the Horse Chestnut trees.
